Inside the Hustle

I’ve been texting a prospect notary client for over the course of 30 minutes. She found my ad on Craig’s list and needed someone to meet her at the Long Beach county (it’s actually the Century Regional Detention Facility) to have her wife sign a document to get their/her car out of impound.

Sure. $15 for the notarization. $40 for my travel fee, after all it’s outside of my service area. The last time I had to appear at jail for a client, we just had one of their officer people get the guy. Uh-uh. Not for this facility. They want you to create an account, make an appointment online a week in advance. I mean, damn!

So, I’m just waiting to see what the client says. Some of the challenges I face, as I continue to learn all about the reasons why someone needs a notary.

Inside the Hustle: Delivering Notarized Documents

My notary work from Friday is now complete. I took a bus to the Red Line. From the North Hollywood station Ubered to the attorney’s office in which I was suppose to drop off the paperwork. Almost got hit by a car crossing Ventura Blvd.

All for two minutes of work. And $80. $30 of actual notarization services and $50, of travel fees. But I’m pretty sure that was all eaten up. So, I broke even. It happens. Part of the cost of doing business.

But I offered exemplary service which I’m proud of. Texted the client this morning to confirm in was en route to the attorney’s office and made sure I had the right address. Then once undropped off the documents, I texted him a photo of the location and called him letting him know everything was delivered and completed.

My favorite part: CashApp-ing him.

Inside the Hustle: Double Duty Notary Signing

Finally made it home after seeing two notary clients back to back after work. Thank God I got off at 3pm today. One cclient liver in the The Hollywood Dells area and the other lived in the Hollywood Hills area. Both areas are very affluent and well off in terms of homes. Those people definitely do not go without. But the reception was crappy. After I left the first client in the Hollywood Dells area, I had a hard time getting an Uber to go to the next client because of the reception. And when I finally did get an Uber, somehow, it gave my driver the wrong address. Luckily, my driver was kind enough to enter the second client’s address into his Waze app. Each notary session took about 90 seconds to complete and yet, I probably spent an hour and half commuting to them and back home. Ugh!

I think going forward I’m going to decline that area for recieving clients. It’s not an ideal situation for using cell phone reception. And I need reception when calling for an Uber to travel. Now I’m home. I’m hungry. Didn’t get to go to Payless like I wanted before the stores close for good.

But, all in a days work. Right?

Inside the Hustle

Waiting for Ms. Renee here at the Ace Hotel/ Best Girl Restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles. She was a guest speaker at one of the programs we ran at my job. She reached out to me about two weeks ago asking to meet about a writing project. We tried to meet up last Wednesday, but due a work event the following day and a client from work, so we’ve reschedule for today. She is an independent beauty consultant and has her own business here in Los Los Angeles.

And I’m not too sure what to expect, but I’m excited. Will keep you updated!

Inside the Hustle: Connecting With Other Like Minds

Sitting here at this really unique and inviting coffee shop near the corner of 6th Street and Shatto Place called Cafe Mak. Meeting up again with Nina from NextDoor, a freelance writer I’ve been communicating with over the past couple of weeks. She’s working on her resume for a writing opportunity in the beauty industry. And me — just happy to be out of the house, although it’s a wonderfully chill Sunday afternoon.

I’ve made a commitment this month to get our more and meet new people and stay connected to the ones that matter. So, far so good.

Met up with Felicia last Thursday in Leimert Park after our company event, since she lives near there. Planning to meet Chamian Downtown this upcoming Wednesday. And if Kelvyn reaches out to me this week, I’ll see if he’s available to mee this Friday after 3pm. He may actually be a client. So, fingers crossed on that prospect meeting. I do have to meet up with Federico next Sunday to complete the website review. It’s going have to be around 1pm as I have my Discount Notary Day that morning and I am already committed to it.

But, yeah. Connecting to people as of lately has been very nurturing to my soul. Don’t get me wrong, I can get “peopled out” too, where I just need to be away from everyone. But stepping outside of my walls and connecting to like minded people has many rewards.

Anyone wanna meet up?

Inside the Hustle: Multiply Work

It’s Sunday morning and I am on the phone with a website client who is asking for more services. The friend who recommended me this client initially told him I could do more for him, so he’s explaining what those needs are. And it just so happens to be accompanied with a life story, an ex-wife and an attorney. Yeesh.

Typically, I try to steer from clients with this many personal problems they vocalize because they end up being more work than they’re worth, my but my friend Carlos said the client really needs me. Well, duh! But, this may have to be the last referral I take like this. I already feel drained and we haven’t begun on anything.

What does that tell you?

We’ll see. I would like to stay home today and take of care of “me” stuff. Fingers crossed.

If anyone is curious to see the website I completed for this client, you can visit www.serraocabinets.com. Tell me what you think. Be honest!

Inside the Hustle: Website Building

Sitting here with Federico working in his website for his busineds: Serrao Cabinets. This project I’ve been working slowly on because I am on his schedule. Which, I like. I use to rush clients because I needed to get paid because I had such a horrible job – ICT – but not anymore.

Now, I take my time, I go at my client’s pace. Sometimes I go a little slower, but no need to rush. Because I make sure I have a manageable rotation of clients to keep me busy and paid.

Inside The Hustle: The Launch

Elle inside her hustle

Elle here! Boy has it been quite the week. I literally moved my life to the West Coast in January in less than a month, and I just moved back to the East Coast in less than, hmmm, three days. Talk about moving around. I have been back now a week, and I am already launching my meal prepping service today!!!! Oh, and I’ve already got a client.

I’m suppose to be finishing my menu flyer, but I thought I’d peep in to check in with my hustle family. Peace and love to you ladies and keep hustlin’.

PS, I’ll share more of what I’m working on in the coming weeks. Until then I hope you all follow my journey @mylifebeingelle and @junkfoodbyelle on Instagram, and sign up for my email list at www.eatjunkfood.co

Inside The Hustle: Discount Notary Day

On my way to do my Discount Notary Day at 801 S. Olive St. from 9:00-12:00pm. I had another client text me while in route thinking we were meeting today but I scheduled our meeting for next Sunday in NoHo. It turns out he was confusing me for one of the three Michelles he regularly talks to.

Glad I got that straightened out because I am not prepared at all today for that meeting. Ugh.

But, I am a little excited about about today’s notary day. I had much more engagement with the Facebook ad I ran during the week. 🤞🏽Hope I get some turn out.

Inside The Hustle: Same Day Notary Service

On my way to service a notary client in the Hollywood at a nursing / convalescent home. The person helping or representing them found me on Craigslist last week and I was lightly in touch with her for a few days. Usually, when I don’t hear back, I assume they found another notary or no longer need the service.

But she sent an email and I’m on my way. I just wish she provided me a contact number. Little logistical necessities that help a great deal.

She’s also lucky I’m available right now since I’m flexing my time at work. I don’t have to be at work till 12:30pm, so squeezing this in works for me. I just hope I can reach by her time I get there and secure this assignment.
